If Mohamed ElBaradei is really planning on challenging President Hosni Mubarak in 2011, he’s pursuing an interesting campaign strategy.
“I don’t want to be president of Egypt,” the former International Atomic Energy Agency chief said, in an interview published last week on the Foreign Policy Magazine website. “You can understand that after having this thankless job for 12 years, that I wanted to have some time to do other things, including spending time with my family.”

Emad Meteab scored five minutes into stoppage time to earn Egypt a 2-0 victory over Algeria on Saturday 14 November and a 2010 FIFA World Cup™ lifeline.
The result left the fierce North African rivals level on points and goal difference at the top of Group C so they will meet again next Wednesday in Sudan to decide which country goes to South Africa.
Reigning African champions Egypt could not have wished for a better start, with Amr Zaki giving them a second-minute lead before a sell-out 75,000 crowd in Cairo.

Football's world governing body, Fifa, has confirmed that Algeria and Egypt could face a play-off to decide who qualifies for the 2010 World Cup. If Egypt beat Algeria by a two-goal margin in Cairo in the final Group C game the two sides will be inseparable. Both teams will have the same points as well as identical goals scored and goals conceded. Fifa says rather than a drawing of lots there will be a single play-off game on a neutral ground on 18 November.

Egypt's coach Hassan Shehata and his players hailed Thursday's ( 18 June 2009 ) win over Italy in the FIFA Confederations Cup as a proud achievement and have set their sights on the tournament's semi-finals.
"This is a great result," Shehata told Reuters after an emotional night for the Egyptians, whose 1-0 victory over the world champions is their best ever result. "We had a good game against Brazil technically but the result did not go our way. But this gives us great hope for the semi-finals," he added.

A last-gasp Kaka penalty snatched Brazil a 4-3 victory over a courageous Egypt in an exhilarating Group B opener at Free State Stadium. Dunga's side carried a two-goal cushion in at the break, but a quick-fire double had the Pharaohs level until the former FIFA World Player's second goal of the game injury time.
It took Brazil just five minutes to break the deadlock. There appeared to be little danger when Daniel Alves's dink found Kaka inside a congested penalty area, but the No10 subtly tricked his way past two opponents before casually sliding the ball home.

Thousands of pharmacists in Cairo and other governorates went on strike and closed their pharmacies the whole day or part of the day. Others kept open but refused to sell medicine.
This came in response to the decision of their syndicate’s general assembly of last Friday in protest against the cancellation of the agreement they had signed with the Tax Department in 2005, which considered them as small projects. Now they are required to do book-keeping and would be taxed for the last three years retrospectively.
